An Ado-Ekiti Customary Court on
Wednesday dissolved a 12-year-old marriage on the grounds of constant fighting
and lack of care for the children.
The court granted the petition
of Mr. Julius Ajala, who accused his wife, Kemi, of lack of respect, lack of
care for their children and denial of sex.
Julius, 50, also submitted that
Kemi was lazy.
He told the court that he was
tired of the union and needed divorce to avoid constant quarrel with Kemi.
In her response, 48-year-old
Kemi did not deny the allegations but submitted that Julius constantly beat her
over flimsy reasons.
The mother of two said that the
petitioner usually destroyed her wares – food stuff – whenever she returned
late from market.
She told the court that she
deliberately starved Julius of sex because of his wayward lifestyle.
The President of the Court, Mrs
Olayinka Akomolede, held that the marriage had broken down irretrievably, and
consequently dissolved it.
She granted custody of the
female child of the marriage, aged 11, to Kemi and gave the custody of the
nine-year- old son to Julius.
Akomolede ordered Julius to pay
N4,000 monthly to Kemi for the feeding of the female child, adding that the
man should be responsible for the education of the children.
She ordered the wife to release
the girl on holiday to her father who must return her a week before school
resumption.
She granted access to both
parties to visit the children between 8a.m. and 6p.m.
The divorce suit first came up
for mention on Oct.12, 2016.
